Case study — UX architecture
Designing the system behind everyday wellness
Transforming Life With Health from a product catalogue into a connected wellness platform for New Zealand and Australasia — architecture, content system, service design and SEO foundation, built to scale.

01 — My role
Designing across business, experience and execution.
My role extended beyond producing interface designs. I worked across strategy, business requirements, user experience, content structure, brand expression, ecommerce and system implementation.
My responsibility was to translate a broad business vision into a clear digital model that customers, founders, developers, operations, suppliers and future content contributors could understand and use. I worked alongside Jess on development and technical systems, and Esther on supplier relationships, products and logistics.
My leadership was not about owning every task. It was about connecting every decision.
02 — The transformation
From product catalogue to connected wellness platform.
More than a redesign. A new way for people to discover, learn and live better.
The original website successfully supported the business for many years, but it was largely organised around inventory. Today, Life With Health is a connected platform - where content, commerce and community come together to create a more meaningful wellness journey.
Before: organised around inventory, products and content separated, limited educational discovery, inconsistent brand storytelling, SEO treated as a separate activity, publishing dependent on one-off decisions.
After: organised around customer understanding, content and commerce connected, education integrated into discovery, trust expressed throughout the journey, SEO embedded into architecture, reusable systems supporting future growth.
The goal was not to make the website look newer. The goal was to make the digital business work more intelligently.

03 — The challenge
The challenge was bigger than UI.
The website was only the visible layer. Behind it were interconnected challenges across people, content, business, operations and technology.
A new interface alone could not solve the real problems. To create a meaningful and scalable wellness platform, we needed to see the bigger picture, and design a connected system where everything works together.
The experience was fragmented, with customers searching across multiple places to find what they needed. Content, commerce, operations and suppliers worked in isolation, and the platform was hard to maintain, grow and adapt for future opportunities.
When customer needs, content, commerce, operations and technology are aligned, the platform becomes more than a website - it becomes a sustainable ecosystem for growth.

04 — Key insights
Four insights changed the direction of the project.
People don’t always start with a product. Customers often begin with a question, concern, ingredient, ritual or gift occasion - not a specific product.
Trust must be earned before action. In the wellness category, customers are careful. They need transparent information, credible sources and clear curation.
Content is part of the product experience. Educational content shouldn’t sit separately from the shop. It should guide, inspire and connect naturally to relevant products.
Scalability depends on workflows, not just design. A consistent and growing platform requires reusable templates, clear content processes, supplier alignment and internal workflows.

05 — UX architecture
Information architecture built around how people explore wellness.
The platform was reorganised around how customers explore wellness, making it easier to discover, learn and choose what’s right for them.
Shop, Wellness Rituals, Journal, Our Brands and About form the main navigation, each opening into the paths people actually follow.
The architecture supports different starting points - whether customers arrive with a question, a goal, a ritual, a brand or an occasion - and helps them make informed choices with confidence.

06 — Customer experience
Different entry points. A connected experience.
Customers may enter from different starting points - a question, a goal, a ritual, a brand, or an occasion - but are guided toward confident purchase decisions.
Five journey paths were mapped. Start with a question, a goal, a ritual, an ingredient or an occasion; each path moves through content, curation and comparison to product details and purchase.
The content relationship map keeps those paths connected: explore, discover, choose, purchase and be inspired all circle back to the customer journey.

07 — The signature system
The signature content-commerce system.
The Journal was not designed as a separate blog. It became a strategic layer that connects customer questions, practical education, rituals, product discovery, and organic search - creating a continuous system that supports real decisions.
Learn a wellness topic through accessible, responsible and practical education. Practise it by translating that understanding into a simple ritual or everyday action. Discover relevant products, collections, brands or supporting resources with greater confidence.
Content was no longer an addition to the website. It became part of the business infrastructure.

08 — Trust
Trust was designed across the entire experience.
Trust is not a single feature. It is the result of many consistent decisions - woven into every part of the journey.
Brand values, curation criteria, supplier review and clear product information chain together into customer confidence. A curated range replaces overwhelming choice, supplier stories introduce the people behind the products, and educational content helps people make better choices.
In wellness eCommerce, trust is not created at checkout. It is built through every small decision before purchase.

09 — Service design & operations
Connecting the customer experience to backstage operations.
A great experience is built on invisible processes. I worked across strategy, UX structure, content systems and operational alignment to help translate the business vision into a scalable digital experience.
The end-to-end journey runs from plan and align, to source and onboard, create and prepare, publish and launch, then monitor and improve - supported by supplier management, content production, product publication, brand standards, and analytics and feedback.
The result is a scalable operational foundation that supports better products, richer content and a more consistent experience, today and into the future.

10 — Design system
A reusable language for content, commerce and growth.
The design system creates a shared language that makes products, articles, rituals, supplier stories and campaigns easier to publish, easier to understand, and more effective at driving healthy change.
One recommendation module adapts across five contexts - journal article, ritual page, collection page, supplier story and homepage feature - keeping the experience consistent while content and layout flex to fit each context.
Consistency in behaviour builds familiarity. Flexibility in expression lets each story keep its own tone. Reusable building blocks help teams move faster, and a unified system helps wellbeing reach more people.

11 — The final experience in context
One system. Multiple ways to enter.
The platform was designed to support different user intentions without forcing everyone into the same shopping path.
People come with different questions, goals and needs. The structure meets them where they are - discovering through a question, exploring a wellness goal, learning about ingredients and people, or coming back for more through useful content.
The platform supports learning, exploring, purchasing and returning, creating a more inclusive, flexible and human-centred experience.

12 — Roadmap
Build → Connect → Grow.
A phased approach for long-term impact.
From a strong foundation to a connected ecosystem, and continuous growth - designed to create a more meaningful, scalable and resilient wellness platform.
Build the foundation: website strategy, UX architecture, journal and content structure, product templates, design system and SEO foundation. Connect the ecosystem: content and commerce links, customer journeys, suppliers and products, operations and publishing, analytics and measurement. Grow continuously: technical SEO, content expansion, topic authority, conversion optimisation and performance reporting.
Thoughtful systems today. A healthier tomorrow.

13 — Outcomes & measurement
What changed — and how we will know.
New architecture implemented — a clearer structure built around user needs.
Journal integrated — educational content became part of the core experience.
Core templates released — reusable structures created for products, collections, rituals and stories.
Design system adopted — a shared visual and interaction language supports a consistent experience.
SEO foundation completed — search considerations were embedded into architecture, content and implementation.
Publishing workflow established — content, products, suppliers and campaigns can now move through a more repeatable process.

Credibility is more valuable than dramatic numbers. We will report performance only when the data is meaningful, validated and comparable over time.
14 — Final reflection
The most important design work happened between the screens.
This project reminded me that digital transformation doesn’t start with designing interfaces - it starts with understanding the relationships across the whole system: people, content, products, operations and purpose.
It begins by seeing the bigger picture: between customer questions and product discovery, between brand promises and operational decisions, between educational content and commercial outcomes, between reusable components and the people responsible for publishing them, and between what the business launches today and what it needs to support tomorrow.
The final website is a visible expression of those relationships - a connected, human-centred and scalable digital business.
Good design looks beyond the interface to the people, relationships and systems that make progress possible.

15 — In the client’s words
A truly special experience working with Reyco Kua.
When I started Life With Health, I had a vision in my heart of what I wanted the brand to represent, but I didn’t always know how to put that vision into words or translate it into a brand and website. That’s where Reyco came in.
From the very beginning, Reyco took the time to listen, understand what I was trying to create, and truly get to know the heart behind Life With Health. What started as ideas and conversations slowly became a beautiful brand and website that felt like us — and that meant so much to me.
Reyco didn’t simply design a logo or build a website. Reyco helped bring my vision to life.
There were many little details along the way, and I really appreciated Reyco’s patience, creativity and willingness to listen and make changes until everything felt right. I never felt like I was just another project. Reyco genuinely cared about the outcome and wanted Life With Health to be something I could feel proud of.
Seeing the finished website for the first time was such a special moment. It captured the feeling I had imagined but struggled to express — warm, professional, authentic and beautifully aligned with what Life With Health stands for.
As a founder, putting your vision into someone else’s hands can feel quite personal. I’m so grateful that I trusted Reyco with mine.
Thank you, Reyco, for believing in my vision, for your creativity and patience, and most importantly, for helping turn something that started as an idea into something real that I can share with the world. I’m incredibly proud of the Life With Health brand and website, and I’m genuinely grateful to have had Reyco be part of that journey.
